DOING

Ginger Hop and Buffalo Sweat
If you're looking for a real deal taste and a cool environment, look no further than Northeast Minneapolis' Ginger Hop. I had been there before, but this Saturday was my first time tasting the fare. I went with a vegan sloppy joe, coined The Steven Segal which excited my taste buds like no other. If you're on the in on Minneapolis' restaurants, you've most likely heard about Ginger Hop's thai fusion dishes. But if you've hadn't had the opportunity to try it, I say, "go right now!"

Accompanying Ginger Hop's restaurant atmosphere during the day, is a hip bar environment at night as well as an adjacent bar in the basement of the NE location is Honey, which is home to small concerts, dancing, and music. Upstairs at Ginger Hop by night, also saves space to cut a rug as well drink. On Saturday, I tried Tallgrass' Buffalo Sweat. Chocolatey with a hint of coffee, the cleverly named dark stout quenched my thirst and my mind.

The Rural Alberta Advantage
This Saturday, September 24, Grant and myself will venture to First Avenue in Downtown Minneapolis to see The Rural Alberta Advantage perform. A band I was introduced to this Summer, RAA never seizes to amaze my hearing senses. Their songs are unique and possess emotions that any human can relate to.

In addition to RAA being a great band, First Ave seems to be a venue that artists find their passion in. I haven't been to a show at First Ave that hasn't instilled in me a greater connection to the music I heard that night and to be honest, music in general. I'm anticipating another great show and another great night.

Nickle Dickle Day in Waconia, MN
On Saturday, September 17, I'll head to Waconia for a good old fashioned, small town festival. Last year was my first time as a Nickle Dickle Day attendant. I was fascinated by similarities and differences between this festival and the one my hometown (Prior Lake) holds every year, the first weekend in August.

Complete with music, fair food, nickel beers, and good camaraderie, I expect this year's Nickle Dickle Day to top last years. I'm looking forward to spending the day in the far-western suburbs with my good friends. Perhaps, you might even get a blog post out of it...

Watching: Lost
On Saturday, September 3, I started watching the highly acclaimed television, Lost. I've never been one to become attached to a television, to the point where I watch every episode. Although there are shows I enjoy, I never seem to have the time to regularly watch consecutive episodes. However, I had surgery on my knee on September, 1. So, I have a little more "couch time"on my hands.

I really didn't know what to expect from the suspenseful series. During my undergraduate career, I listened (as I studied) to my college roommates as they intently watched the series on a weekly basis. Since then, a little think we like to call Netflix has presented itself as the greatest thing since Peanut Butter M & M's. Nonetheless, I'm able to watch a serious amount of consecutive episodes. In the matter of three and a half days, I've managed to watch 19 of the 25 episodes in Season One. I imagine by tomorrow, I'll be on to Season Two.

  1. I'd like to take a little credit for this new (healthy?) addiction...
